Injury Prevention

The goal of the injury prevention program is to reduce the frequency, severity and impact of preventable injury and of substance misuse across the life span.  We work to reduce the incidence and severity of injuries and injury related hospitalizations, disabilities and death as well as injuries related to substance misuse.

Injury is the leading cause of death for people under 44 years of age.  In Grey and Bruce counties, injuries are the fourth leading cause of death.  Ninety percent of these injuries are preventable and predictable.  The Health Unit implements a number of initiatives to reduce these numbers, through programs including the prevention falls in older adults, general prevention education through home visits, community presentations, awareness campaigns and other training.

DO YOU HAVE UNUSED/EXPIRED MEDICATIONS? OR USED SHARPS?

NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH THEM?

You can now return these medications and sharps to a pharmacy in your community through programs offered by the health products industries called Ontario Medications Return Program (OMRP) and the Ontario Sharps Collection Program (OSCP). When you drop off your medications and sharps, you'll not only ensure they're disposed of properly – you'll also keep them out of the wrong hands, preventing abuse or accidental ingestion or injuries – and protecting our environment in the process.
