Intimate Partner Violence

The Centre for Disease Control defines intimate partner violence as “physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse. This type of violence can occur among heterosexual or same-sex couples and does not require sexual intimacy”.  From: http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/intimatepartnerviolence/

From the Canadian Women’s Foundation: “Most men are not abusive to their families. However, when family violence does occur, the victims are overwhelmingly female: 83% of all police-reported domestic assaults are against women.  This pattern is consistent for every province and territory across Canada.
